I began writing this on October 30th the day before Halloween and never finished! I know I have said this before but Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. Sadly there was no party for me again this year and given my limited ability to get in and out of the house (see the last post if you want to know a little more) I couldn’t go visit Halloween stores or look at decorations. I couldn’t even give out treats! Never mind, I at least want to acknowledge the holiday even if it is a week late.
The Ghosts of Halloween Past
I have many wonderful memories of trick or treating as a child myself to trick or treating with my own children. I hosted parties for them until they got too old with handmade decorations, party games, and treats. Later I hosted my own with many many decorations including candles, jack o’lanterns, a fire in the fireplace, haunted villages, spooky lighting indoors and out etc etc. I had a graveyard on the front lawn with silly “engravings” like “I told you I was sick!” along with skeletons and ghosts. We even had a little live music and storytelling! Maybe I will be able to revive those ghosts of Halloween past some day in the Halloween future and make them ghosts of Halloween present! Or something like that.
Evoking the Halloween Spirit
I have some nice Halloween themed photographs I found online. I thought I would include this one since it’s my favorite. Who knows maybe next year will be better and I will even get a post out on time!
This is what I would like my outdoor front yard cemetery to look like! I don’t know if I could quite get the misty look you have here and I don’t have any dead trees (thankfully!) in my front yard. It’s too bad but I don’t think I can order a moon and birds like these!
