Summer is almost here and for so for many of us that means at least one trip to the beach or maybe two or three. You may have noticed I love Cape Cod given that I wrote a book that features it so prominently. I think I made the Cape virtually a character in the book just as much as Kate and Glory. I have often thought that the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce should pay me for promoting tourism and maybe sell my book or even give it away! Anyway my husband and I will be going to the Cape just a few weeks from now and that’s because we own a timeshare week in mid July. I don’t think I’ll ever own a cottage like my grandparents did but this isn’t so bad. I’ll take it. When we are there we do a lot of things we enjoy like going to the Wellfleet Flea Market, exploring Provincetown, taking a whale watch trip, maybe heading out to the islands for the day and visiting the Harwichport cottage my grandparents owned. We’ve taken many pictures over the years I’d love to share with you, maybe here if I can figure out how to do it or on my Facebook page. I think I can show you a few or maybe just one. This is a photograph of the stairs leading down to the beach at the end of Ocean Avenue in Harwichport. I would sit on those benches with my parents or my friend Jeanne (I dedicated Seeking Glory to her!) take off my shoes or flip-flops, climb down the stairs to the sand below, plant our umbrella like a flag and go running into the water!
I don’t do that now of course. Instead I go to a great resort where I can sit around the pool, have a drink or a burger and I relax in the sun that way. Harwichport will always be in my heart as my favorite beach. If you can’t do it here maybe you can go to my Facebook page and post a picture of your favorite beach! I’d love to see them!
