Welcome to the Seeking Glory Blog

Hi! I’m Patricia Hamilton Shook, the author of Seeking Glory and this my first blog entry for my book. I have to admit I have never written any blog entry before so bear with me. I hope you had a chance to look at the rest of the website before reaching this page but if not please look at it before you go because it will help you see what Seeking Glory is all about.

Cape Cod~Home of Seeking Glory

I had this story pretty much written in my head for years before I had it written down on paper or, more realistically, on a computer. It was a process that moved along slowly because I wrote whenever I felt like writing. This is only one of three books that I have carried around in my head for years. I wrote Seeking Glory first because It thought it was the easiest and most straightforward to write. The thing of it is I thought once I had written it I would be done with it and could move on to the next book but no. Having written Seeking Glory I felt the need to publish it. Of course I first tried the traditional route, sent out numerous queries and never got an offer. Then I decided to try self-publishing and while that wasn’t easy Seeking Glory was finally published in August of 2018. That was great! I could hold the actual book, my book, in my hands! Publishing the book, however, was followed by marketing, the hardest of all, so here I am hoping you might want to check out what I do believe is an enjoyable and intriguing story as Kate tries to uncover the secret of her granddaughter’s origins.

Seeking Glory is a story about family relationships with a mystery component that takes place primarily on Cape Cod, a lovely peninsula extending out in the Atlantic Ocean off the Massachusetts coast. Cape Cod is one of my favorite places. When I was a child my parents and I spent the first two weeks in August every year on the Cape staying in my grandmother’s cottage in Harwichport. Today I spend about one week every year on the Cape in July with my husband and sometimes my son. I would love to share Cape Cod with you as well as the story of Kate and Glory with its exploration of family relationshps and the mystery surrounding Glory.

Anyway here we have a clip art map of Cape Cod that I found and really liked. The Cape is often said to look like an arm bent at the elbow and you can see that here. If you look carefully you will see Harwich on the lower arm near the elbow and Yarmouth, where Kate and Glory live, is just west of that. Out on Cape Cod Bay you can see whales diving and coming up for air. We like to go out whale watching every year in big boats that are the size of ferries. I recommend going but be careful if you tend get seasick because it can be a little choppy.

Traveling Cape Cod with Kate and Glory

Until we meet again

I’ve barely covered Cape Cod here and there is so much more that both Kate and I love about it (I mean, Kate is my creation after all). Maybe we can talk about it some more at another time on another post. Please comment or sign up for a newsletter. Writing a newsletter will be something new for me too so we’ll see how it goes. Until later then.
